This workflow outlines the development and implementation pathway of the Standardised Supervisor Training System (SSTS), an initiative designed to enhance the quality and consistency of clinical supervision across Australia.

The project begins with a foundational understanding of supervision definitions and supervisor roles, informed by a thematic analysis of medical college websites, a validated survey, and a comprehensive literature review. These inputs create a Taxonomy of Supervision, which underpins the Medical Supervisor Curriculum (MSC)—a nationally standardised framework of seven core capabilities.

From the MSC, several key outputs are developed:

  • Supervisor–Learner Engagement Protocol (SLEP)

  • Supervisor Selection and Appointment Policy and Process (SSAPP)

  • Supervisor Performance Feedback Policy and Process (SPFPP)

  • Supervisor Learning Resources, including microlearning modules contextualised to rural, remote, and metropolitan settings.

These learning resources are integrated into a fit-for-purpose Content Delivery Solution (VISME), leading to a Piloting Phase and Evaluation to assess relevance, impact, and effectiveness.

The final stage involves stakeholder agreement and system refinement, ensuring sustainable implementation. Findings will be disseminated nationally to encourage ongoing collaboration, quality improvement, and adoption across all Australian medical colleges.
